Find your Spring 2016 Haircut

This season expect to see clean shapes with a soft interior delivered from styling products and tools.  Your hair should look healthy and styled. Here are some ideas for different lengths….

“LONG HAIR” aka Long Bob with or with out sweepy bangs.

Long hair is actually not THAT long right now. These medium length styles are strong and keep your ends looking fresh like Spring should be!

MUST HAVE TOOL: Natural Boar Bristle Brush

MUST HAVE STYLING PRODUCT: EVO Water Killer Dry Shampoo Spray dry shampoo on second day hair and work through with your boar bristle brush for volume and texture.

“THE SHOB”  aka Short Blunt Bob 😉

The look of longer in the front to shorter in the back is starting to level out. Women who have ventured to the titled cut are now feeling ready to go shorter and make a statement. Your stylist can add texture to the interior of this cut with a razor so you have soft-weightless strands.

MUST HAVE TOOL: 1inch curling iron. Wrap the hair around the iron with the clamp open leaving out the last inch of the strand.

MUST HAVE STYLING PRODUCT: Davines Sea Salt Spray Mist finished waves with Sea Salt Spray and blow dry hair with medium heat on a low speed to set the style.

“SHORT SHORT”  Just go for it, it always grows back!

Then there are those women who are way more confident than most…This cut is a perfect balance of softness and edge.

MUST HAVE TOOL: Filtered shower head or Water Softener. Hard water weighs down your hair, dehydrates, and fades haircolor. Having a filter makes a HUGE difference in the way your hair and skin feel. Trust me. You will be glad you did.

MUST HAVE STYLING PRODUCT: FATBOY Perfect Putty Apply a dime-nickel amount in the palm of your hand. Warm up the product by rubbing both hands together and massage into dry hair for a matte finish with second day texture on day one!

Who: Tyson Kennedy, the lead singer of Steriogram and a hairstylist at Cutler Soho.

What: Fatboy Perfect Putty

Why Bother: Between juggling gigs as a Grammy-nominated musician and an award-winning hairstylist, Tyson Kennedy managed to whip up a new hair product, Fatboy Perfect Putty. Kennedy says he was tired of products that leave locks weighed down or looking over-coiffed. “I like a bit of boogie to my hair product,” he explains, “but hate my hair feeling greasy, like it has a ton of product in there. I made Fatboy in order to have the perfect balance between the hair having a rough matte texture and being soft to the touch, with a lightweight feel.”  Unlike styling aids limited to creating specific styles or suitable only for certain hair types, Fatboy — the result of over 18 months of experimentation in the kitchen of Kennedy’s Lower East Side apartment  — aims to coax out the best of each person’s unique hair personality. Named in a nod to Kennedy’s childhood moniker, Fatboy doubles as a witty testament to the putty’s thickening, buildable formula.

Where and How Much: $18 at Cutler Soho, 465 West Broadway; (212) 308-3838 .

Product Club Educator Training 2011

Today, I opened the mail to find behindthechair.com holiday edition, a magazine for professional stylist. I love this magazine it has great techniques and inspiring artist throughout the pages. You’re guaranteed to learn something useful. The holiday edition featured great companies such as Vidal Sassoon, Arrojo, Sam Villa, and a wonderful company I work for…Product Club. It was exciting to see Product Club’s ad sharing the pages of such established and successful companies.

This weekend Product Club will hold its annual educator training. I am very excited to see everyone and share my new technique I call the shooting star, inspired by Christina Perri.
I wanted to create her bold blonde piece wearable for anyone!
For my technique I styled a mannequin to showcase the natural sweeping effect of the shooting star. To achieve the look I prepped the hair with Davines OI. Next I Flat ironed the top layer of the hair and backcombed the nape with my amazing Sam Villa Sleekr, awesome. To provide separation to enhance the “tail” of the shooting star I used FATBOY perfect putty. This “perfect putty” is exactly that, perfect. For the finish and memorable hold, I used Loreal Professional Infinuim 3 strong hold working spray.
