I had the privilege of working with the talented Joshua Kennon on an editorial recently. Check out his blog post and the images we’ve created!

For the hair I used Original Minerals Frizzy Logic and Davines Melu shield. Glominerals makeup was perfect for this minimalistic look.

This story is based on the designs from Ann Demeulemeester (Self), Maison Martin Margiela (Team), and Lanvin (Alber Elbaz) for the spring 2012 season with additional inspiration from the lines of Cristian Siriano (Self).  What I respect most, and what captivated me about these particular houses was their unwavering dedication to their heart.  They took a season that is generally projected via bright palettes and flowing fabrics, and created something strong and empowering.  These shows took me to another place, a limitless place where the mind is free to roam, a place that is different for each individual.  They strayed from the path that I see so many houses going down.  A path that is led strictly by money and investors.  They chose to not limit themselves by “what will sell”, but rather followed their instincts and asked “what can I introduce?”.  I believe this is true innovation.  Each of these designers is where they are today due to their creativity, dedication to their vision, and the support of teams that believe in them.  I suppose these images are a glimpse into the world these shows created for me, a place that I like to drift back into every now and then.  These designers introduced me to a whole new world, and for that  they will always hold a special place in my heart.

PINK is my favorite color!

I am obsessed with NYX cosmetics, not only are they affordable but their makeup stays intact all day long. I live in St. Louis where the weather has been hell on earth. Therefore I’ve been wearing a lot less makeup. My favorite simple look is a bold lip.

To achieve this look I used:

NYX Lipliner pencil in Fuchsia and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa. I was in shock by the amount of people who paid me a compliment while wearing this color. Both the lip pencil and lip cream were super easy to apply and looked smooth and creamy all day and into the night! Personally I like a bold matte lip instead of a high gloss shine. When eating the shine comes off and you need to reapply almost immediately. With the matte lip cream, I was able to enjoy appetizers at The Limited’s preview party for Eloquii without worrying about my lip color. It was perfect!

I will most definitely be posting a “How To” tutorial using these two products this week so stay tuned! Until then check out http://www.nyxcosmetics.com

I am so excited to carry the entire Original Mineral line! I love everything about this line from the smell to the story behind the company!

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED

Here are some of the ‘everyday’ chemicals they’ve left out of their haircare and styling products.

Phthalates – Cling to the hair to give it fragrance and also gives hair product such as gels more staying power. Exposure to phthalates in pregnant women can cause harm during critical periods of a child’s development.

Sulfates – Are used to clean the hair of its natural oils leaving the hair feeling dry and looking matte. Denatures skin proteins and largely effects people with contact dermatitis.

Parabens – Have antifungal and antibacterial properties that act as a preservative for maintaining freshness and longer product shelf life. One of the leading chemicals that can cause skin irritation and contact dermatitis.

Propylene Glycol – Used to bind many haircare products together and retain moisture content not only on the hair but also in packaging. Propylene glycol has been linked to causing headaches, backaches and kidney problems.

M.I.T. – Methylisothiazolinone prevents bacteria. Due to the high exposure to the scalp through haircare, MIT in hair products greatly damages skin cells, causing itching, flaking and soreness on the scalp.

Triciosan – Another chemical that is used to kill bacteria on the hair. Triclosan’s manufacturing process can also create dioxin, a powerful hormone disrupter that can have long term health effects.

I love doing hair and I feel that this line is going to prolong my career as a stylist due to the low amount of harsh chemicals. It is important to me to create great hair color as well as protect my skin, environment, and self from harm.

MY FAVORITE PRODUCTS FOR SUMMER 2012

SURF BOMB This texture spray is a shot of the sea when a dunk in the ocean isn’t possible. Surf Bomb delivers that effortless, sexy tousled look without drying out your hair or dumping sand in the shower.Surf Bomb

Unlike most Sea salt sprays, I feel like surf bomb leaves the hair hydrated & glossy. It creates incredibly controlled texture for curly or wavy girls! I LOVE the fact that it is a UV & color guard making it a must have for summer.

ORIGINAL DETOX Bank on me to remove deposits. Using styling products, swimming in chlorine and the natural build up of oils can make you look dull on top. Australian River Mint deeply cleanses without stripping essential oils, and Peppermint Oil leaves a cooling effect.Original Detox

Everyone should have these two in their cleansing rotation. If you feel like your daily shampoo and conditioner is beginning to leave your hair lifeless and limp, then it’s time to detox! There’s no need to invest in a whole new set of shampoo and conditioners just give your daily S &C a break and bust out this amazing and invigorating duo. You won’t regret it!

Make your mark

Opening a business is not easy. It takes months of planning, meetings, and spending. Anyone will tell you it’s hard and “I hope you know what you’re getting yourself into.” What most people don’t realize or see is the ease of living your passion. I believe that good will come to those who work hard, enjoy every minute, and share their knowledge with the world. There will be problems I’m sure, but how boring would life be if everything was so perfect all the time. You live and you learn. Those who are not learning from their mistakes are obviously sleep walking through life.

St. Louis is now the official home of Thirteenth and Washington, a beauty-fashion- wellness co op. My dream was to create an inspiring environment for professionals in the creative industry to live their dreams of running their own business.
