Spring/ Summer 2013: Combat Frizz

Just when you think you’ve finally mastered your hair’s texture and flaws, the seasons change and stop you in your hair styling tracks! It’s frustrating, I know! I would like to share with you some Services, Product, and Styles to consider for the hot & humid months. Don’t let the season attack your style. Get ready for Hot weather Combat!

SERVICES:

As soon as you feel that first bead of sweat call your stylist and get on your Spring/ Summer hair care schedule! Every 6-8 weeks book yourself for a Cut, Glaze, and Deep Condition. Ideally you should deep condition 2x a week! When it is humid there is obviously tons of moisture in the hair. Therefore if your hair is dry your cuticle will swell and try to suck every bit of moisture it can out of the air! A swollen cuticle= frizz. A smooth cuticle= hydration and reflection of light which also=shine.

  • The proper Cut for your NATURAL texture is perfect for hot months. Don’t fight your hair when it’s hot. Listen to what it wants to naturally do.
  • A Glaze can be clear or demi/semi permanent color. Glazes are deposit only so they soothe the cuticle almost like a top coat of nail polish leaving your strands shiny, silky, and bouncy!
  • If possible Deep Condition 2x a week. This will prevent your hair from searching for moisture in the air.

If you’re in the St Louis area book your services with me at http://www.KristenLinares.com!

PINK is my favorite color!

I am obsessed with NYX cosmetics, not only are they affordable but their makeup stays intact all day long. I live in St. Louis where the weather has been hell on earth. Therefore I’ve been wearing a lot less makeup. My favorite simple look is a bold lip.

To achieve this look I used:

NYX Lipliner pencil in Fuchsia and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa. I was in shock by the amount of people who paid me a compliment while wearing this color. Both the lip pencil and lip cream were super easy to apply and looked smooth and creamy all day and into the night! Personally I like a bold matte lip instead of a high gloss shine. When eating the shine comes off and you need to reapply almost immediately. With the matte lip cream, I was able to enjoy appetizers at The Limited’s preview party for Eloquii without worrying about my lip color. It was perfect!

I will most definitely be posting a “How To” tutorial using these two products this week so stay tuned! Until then check out http://www.nyxcosmetics.com

I am so excited to carry the entire Original Mineral line! I love everything about this line from the smell to the story behind the company!

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED

Here are some of the ‘everyday’ chemicals they’ve left out of their haircare and styling products.

Phthalates – Cling to the hair to give it fragrance and also gives hair product such as gels more staying power. Exposure to phthalates in pregnant women can cause harm during critical periods of a child’s development.

Sulfates – Are used to clean the hair of its natural oils leaving the hair feeling dry and looking matte. Denatures skin proteins and largely effects people with contact dermatitis.

Parabens – Have antifungal and antibacterial properties that act as a preservative for maintaining freshness and longer product shelf life. One of the leading chemicals that can cause skin irritation and contact dermatitis.

Propylene Glycol – Used to bind many haircare products together and retain moisture content not only on the hair but also in packaging. Propylene glycol has been linked to causing headaches, backaches and kidney problems.

M.I.T. – Methylisothiazolinone prevents bacteria. Due to the high exposure to the scalp through haircare, MIT in hair products greatly damages skin cells, causing itching, flaking and soreness on the scalp.

Triciosan – Another chemical that is used to kill bacteria on the hair. Triclosan’s manufacturing process can also create dioxin, a powerful hormone disrupter that can have long term health effects.

I love doing hair and I feel that this line is going to prolong my career as a stylist due to the low amount of harsh chemicals. It is important to me to create great hair color as well as protect my skin, environment, and self from harm.

MY FAVORITE PRODUCTS FOR SUMMER 2012

SURF BOMB This texture spray is a shot of the sea when a dunk in the ocean isn’t possible. Surf Bomb delivers that effortless, sexy tousled look without drying out your hair or dumping sand in the shower.Surf Bomb

Unlike most Sea salt sprays, I feel like surf bomb leaves the hair hydrated & glossy. It creates incredibly controlled texture for curly or wavy girls! I LOVE the fact that it is a UV & color guard making it a must have for summer.

ORIGINAL DETOX Bank on me to remove deposits. Using styling products, swimming in chlorine and the natural build up of oils can make you look dull on top. Australian River Mint deeply cleanses without stripping essential oils, and Peppermint Oil leaves a cooling effect.Original Detox

Everyone should have these two in their cleansing rotation. If you feel like your daily shampoo and conditioner is beginning to leave your hair lifeless and limp, then it’s time to detox! There’s no need to invest in a whole new set of shampoo and conditioners just give your daily S &C a break and bust out this amazing and invigorating duo. You won’t regret it!

Time to have a life

I’ve ended a chapter in my life and started a new one. The  past 6 years as a stylist in the salon have been great! I’ve learned so much from all the amazing people I’ve worked with. From exclusive high-end to chain salons, everyone has taught me something valuable and different. I can’t believe the time has come for me to branch off on my own! I guess I always thought this would happen later in life but I’m sooo glad it’s happening right now instead!

I would like to take you all on a little journey of how, who, and what has inspired me to become the beauty professional I am today…

It starts with the family…

My mom, grandma, and aunts all do hair. We have a salon in Albrightsville, PA that has been in our family for almost 25 years! This is my aunt Darlene : ) she currently owns the family business.

Since I was old enough to walk I swept floors, took rollers out of all the little old ladies’ hair, and provided entertainment by styling my oversized Barbie head. I always knew I wanted to be the boss and call the shots just like my family.

The Mentors

As soon as I finished beauty school I knew I wanted “The Best” training possible before calling myself a real stylist. Lucky me. I met global colorist Patrick McIvor. The man is a color genius and has opened more doors than I ever imagined. He taught me to, “Always be a yes or a no.” People who never ask questions don’t get very far. I would rather know the answer is no rather than never asking at all.

Jayson Morgan

The coolest guy you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. He taught me everything I know about cutting and celeb worthy Blow Outs!

Melissa Johnson

This girl knows her stuff and is by far the funniest person I’ve ever met. Love her!

The What…

Growing up I loved watching people like Carmindy on TLC’s What Not to Wear. I loved her down to earth approach and ability to make anyone look amazing.

Music videos and anything Tim Burton. I am fascinated by the characters that are created with hair and makeup!

The last piece to my Entrepreneur puzzle is “The Four Hour Work Week” This book filled in the blanks and made it an easy decision to move on with my ultimate dream.

My NEW CHAPTER: I am now a Freelance artist who has created the ultimate co-op working environment for people just like me! Check it out! http://www.ThirteenthandWashington.com
